How long does to take to boil water?

Aim: The aim is to find out how long it will take before the water boils 


Materials: Bunsen Burner, Beaker, Tripod, Gauze Mat, Heat Mat, Thermometer, Retort Stand, Boss Head and Clamp, Water, Matches, Timer 


Method:

1. The equipment was set up as diagram



2. 100ml of water was then measured out using a measuring cylinder 


3. The water was then poured into the beaker 


4. A match was used to light the Bunsen burner


5. The Bunsen burner was turned to the blue flame, and the stopwatch was started


6. The temperature was recorded every minute 


7. Bubbles forming in the water were observed to indicate boiling and stopwatch stopped 


8. The time taken for the water to boil was then recorded


Independent variable: time


Dependent variables: temperature of water


Standardised variables:same set up (equipment)

Same heat being applied ( blue flame)

Same amount of water
